Composite Veneers (Bonding)
A composite veneer, also referred to as "bonding", is a technique to resurface the front of a tooth. They are quite cost effective – usually less that half the cost of a porcelain veneer. Veneers are used to change the shape or color of a tooth — a broken tooth can appear undamaged, a discolored tooth can appear whiter. They can be used to close spaces between front teeth or create the illusion that crooked teeth are straight. The versatility of veneers is limited only by the imagination of the dentist.
The procedure for placing veneers involves removing a thin layer of tooth structure from the front of the tooth, which is replaced by the ceramic-resin material. This material is shaped and polished to obtain the desired result. Veneers are quite strong and rarely break. If they do fracture they can be easily repaired. You can expect a veneer to hold its beautiful luster for three to five years, and many will continue to look good for ten years and longer.
